Who we are

Beyond the Grass is operated by Back Nine Golf ("Back Nine," "we," "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you register for and play in our indoor golf competitions, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Back Nine's legal name is Back Nine Golf Group, LLC. Our postal address is 898 E 4010 S, Washington, UT 84780, United States.

Information we collect

When you register for an event, we collect: your name, email address, phone number, your home Back Nine location, your player group (e.g. Men's, Women's, Junior), and your handicap information — your handicap index and its source (e.g. GHIN, 18Birdies, or Full Swing Compete).

When you pay an entry fee, payment is processed by our payment provider; we receive confirmation of payment and a reference, but we do not store your full card details on our systems.

As you compete, we collect your scores, round and hole-by-hole results, assigned flight, tee, and your computed indoor ("Bridge") handicap.

We collect basic technical data (e.g. device/browser type and pages visited) to keep the site working and secure.

A Back Nine location that names you on its Back Nine Battles roster gives us your name — and, only with your agreement, one way to reach you. We use them only to run the Back Nine Battles — never for marketing.

If your Back Nine location is in Australia or New Zealand, it gives us your name only, and you give us your email yourself if you claim your spot. The Back Nine Battles privacy notice explains what that means for you.

How we use your information

To register you for events, verify eligibility, assign your flight and tee, and compute your projected indoor handicap (the BTG Bridge).

To run the competition — record scores, calculate standings and BNC Points (formerly BTG Points; the same standing, renamed), and award results.

To communicate with you about events you've registered for: confirmations, reminders, results, and deadlines.

To process entry payments and prevent fraud or abuse.

Public competition results

Competition is public by design. Your name, your home location, and your scores/standings are published on public leaderboards, the field roster, and results pages — both on our site and in event communications. If you do not want your results displayed publicly, contact us before competing.

Your B9 ID and your Player Locker page are public too, and anyone who emails us a player's name can get that player's B9 ID and locker link, unless that locker is hidden.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where it is needed to run the platform and the competition:

• Back Nine clubs — when you ask to try out for a club, or register for an event a club is hosting, we send that club the information you gave us for that purpose. Clubs are independently owned and operated businesses, and each is responsible for its own handling of your information. A copy of club-directed requests also goes to the Back Nine team, so we can support the club and follow up if the club does not. • Service providers under contract — the providers that host our site and data, deliver our email, process entry payments, and run the simulator scoring platform where rounds are played and posted. They act on our instructions and only as needed.

• Email to compete@thebackninegolf.com — your message and email address come to the Back Nine team's inbox, where an automated service, the Compete bot, answers what our records can answer (such as your B9 ID, your Player Locker link or this week's event code) and leaves everything else for a Back Nine team member. To work out what you're asking, the Compete bot sends the text of your message to an AI service we use.

• The Caddie — the chat assistant on this site is an AI. What you type to it is sent to an AI service we use to write its answers, and if you choose to email the conversation to us, it comes to the Back Nine team's inbox.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Back Nine, our players, or the public.

Where your information is stored

Back Nine is based in the United States, and the information we collect is stored and processed there. If you are outside the United States, your information is sent to and held in the United States.

Cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies to keep the site functioning and secure (for example, to keep you signed in to operator areas). We do not use advertising cookies.

Data retention

We keep registration and competition records for as long as needed to run our events, maintain historical standings and results, meet legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes. You can ask us to delete your personal information (see your rights below).

A contact detail a location gave us for its Back Nine Battles roster is deleted 90 days after the season's final event unless you claim your spot, and immediately if the location removes you from its roster.

Earlier this season some venues also told us whether a player played from a forward tee. We no longer use that, and we have deleted it.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to stop sending you event emails. To make a request, email a Back Nine team member at the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time. Note that we may need to retain certain records (e.g. for completed events or legal reasons) even after a deletion request.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, email a Back Nine team member at the address below and tell us what happened. We will look into it and respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response: in Australia, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au); in New Zealand, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).

Children

Beyond the Grass is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

Security

We protect your information with industry-standard safeguards, including access controls and database-level security on our hosted systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and limit who can access it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our platform evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above, and material changes will be communicated where appropriate.
